Utheemu Island Maldives

Today was such a great day and I feel so blessed to have the chance of discovering this amazing local island with local people of the Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa. We started early by Speedboat and arrived 10 minutes later on the island Utheemu.

This is the most historical island on the Maldives as Utheem is the birthplace of the national hero, Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu. Together with his brothers and his companions, Sultan Mohamed fought an eight-year long war to drive out the Portuguese invaders who occupied the Maldives from 1558 to 1573 and gained Independence. We visited his famous palace and saw the most mystical phenomenon in the world. The whole island is very small and has a population of 900 but is as beautiful as all the resorts we visited. Today it´s just about giving you a short insight of my day, more soon in my Maldives Get Away.
